Meat seems to be a trending name in London with Meat Liquor and Meat Easy having already grabbed a good steak, and then along came The Meat People in Islington, a small and retro outfitted restaurant, that mostly prides itself on being a steakhouse, and I was probably the only person who decided to go in for a fish dinner! In that, was my mistake and downfall! Who goes to somewhere called Meat People and orders fish? A hungry and not very alert chef, apparently. Then again, even my negroni was too sweet! I mean, it’s a negroni, the simplest of all cocktails! Anyway….

Ottolenghi
There aren’t very many places where you can nip in whether or not you’re feeling hungry and always leave with a bag full of goodies, or even take your place in the long queue before sitting down to some great food. Ottolenghi on Upper Street, Islington is definitely one of my favourite places. Every time I go there, I’m inspired and usually, quite stuffed. But the difference here is that the food is decidedly healthy and just full of goodness. Yes, at lunch they only do the salad bar, but what a selection. There are always the usual suspects – aubergines with varied toppings and mint, which is always the first dish I go for. Beetroot’s another frequent visitor and with good reason – the beautiful sweet scarlet vegetable eulogised by Tom Robbins thus:

Puji-Puji
Having a lovely little pub as your local is great. Having a fantastic little restaurant also as your local is a double victory. Especially when there’s nothing really worth of any mention on that stretch of road. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take a chance on the Malaysian restaurant Puji-Puji a few minutes walk away from my house. The menu read like any South East Asian restaurant and at the best of times, the restaurant was always, mostly empty. Nevertheless, the thing that surprised me was that unlike most restaurants in its category, Puji-Puji’s menu was surprisingly short.
